Goals and Objective

IFIE has been established as a non-commercial, private sector organization whose primary objective is to improve investor education on a worldwide basis so that consumers in all jurisdictions are able to make informed choices about financial products and investments.

IFIE will accomplish its objective by providing extensive information on investor education initiatives in different countries, serving as a forum so that providers of investor education can learn first hand about investor education initiatives in different countries, and developing standards for the provision of investor education.

  1. Through participation in IFIE's activities, providers of investor education will have access to information and other resources that will allow them to improve the content, delivery methods and evaluation tools for their own investor education programs while also contributing to improved investor education programs in other countries. IFIE will effectively allow providers of investor education to leverage their efforts and thereby improve their investor education programs at a relatively low cost.
  2. More effective investor education programs will, in turn, allow consumers to plan more appropriately for their future and to feel more confident about investing in financial products, thereby promoting their own financial well being while also contributing to higher levels of national savings and a more efficient allocation of capital. Higher levels of investor confidence will also benefit also the firms that provide investment advice and financial products to consumers.
  3. Finally, since educated consumers are able to make informed choices about financial products and investments, more effective investor education programs will help capital market regulators and private sector market participants achieve the critical goal of protecting retail investors.

In short, more effective investor education programs will help consumers, firms and capital market regulators to meet their specific objectives.
